Union ministers advocate special package for farmers

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Sunday said that he would try his best to get special packages for the welfare of farmers in the country.

Speaking after releasing the book “Desham Kosham Raithu, Raithu Kosam Evaru?” written by former Agriculture minister Vadde Shobhandreswara Rao at Jubilee Halls, Ajit Singh said that since he himself was a farmer, he was aware of the problems being faced by the farmers. He also stressed the need to establish the check points to ensure that the
benefits of government schemes reach the farmers’ directly.

Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D Purandeswari said that steps should be taken to remove the middlemen in the dealing with the farmers issue. Citing an instance, she said that the delay in taking a decision on rice exports only helped the middlemen while the farmers continued to suffer. She said there was a need to bring massive amendments in the policies related to the farmers’ welfare.

Speaking about his book, Vadde Shobanadreswara Rao said that the book highlights the problems being faced by farmers across the country. He said while farmers work hard to ensure food safety for the country, nobody cares for their welfare.

Several media personnel and and members of voluntary organisation associated with the reporting and welfare of farmers’ were felicitated on the occasion. (INN)
