Union home ministry files affidavit in HC on ‘Love Jihad’

Kochi, December 02: The Centre today informed the Kerala High Court that it has no report about the ‘love jihad’ movement through which young non-Muslim girls were allegedly trapped into marriage and converted into Islam in Kerala or elsewhere in the country.

“The term was used in the media. The Central government has not received any inputs or suggestions about the existence of any such movement at the national level,” the Union home ministry told the court in an affidavit.

The ministry, however, said conversions of non-Muslim girls through love affairs had been reported as individual cases and ‘love jihad’ was not an organised movement.

Kerala police chief had earlier filed a report in the court saying that no conclusive evidence had been received about existence of ‘love jihad’ movement.
