Unemployed female grads set up meeting with Shoura Council

Jeddah, June 13: The Shoura Council has agreed to meet with a number of disgruntled unemployed female graduates next week in the wake of accusations that it has done nothing to help them find jobs, reported Al-Hayat Arabic newspaper Saturday.

Umm Muhammad, an unemployed woman who graduated years ago, said she recently submitted a letter to the Council accusing its members of favoring government officials and not questioning them about their alleged failure to do their jobs properly.

“Hundreds of different bachelor degree-holders have been seeking employment for 15 years now,” Umm Muhammad said.

She said her group has received approval from the Council to visit and see for themselves whether their problem has been tabled and solutions discussed.

Dr. Meshal Al-Ali, head of the Council’s Human Rights and Petitions Committee, said the Council “does not mind receiving graduates for them to see that we discuss the worries and problems of Saudi women at all levels. They can choose the committee they want to visit.”

He said the visiting graduates will be able to see files related to women’s education and job creation.
“They have the right to become acquainted with the country’s parliamentary (system) and submit their problems, ideas and suggestions. They can now go to the Council’s general administration to complete the procedures for the visit next week.
