Undertrial LeT militant — an IAS aspirant

Srinagar, March 22: A jailed LeT militant, accused of hatching a conspiracy to kill the then Jammu and Kashmir Education minister, is preparing to sit for the Civil Services Main Examination to become an IAS officer.

A local court has directed the Superintendent of the Srinagar Central Jail to facilitate Shabir Ahmad Bukhari, an undertrial, in submitting his form for the examination.

“You are hereby directed to facilitate Shabir Ahmad Bukhari to submit his form for the IAS in accordance with the jail manual,” First Additional District Judge (Srinagar) Sanjeev Gupta said in his order last week.

Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Bukhari, a resident of Kreeri village in Kashmir’s Baramulla district and a law graduate, had appeared twice for the Kashmir Administrative Service examinations.

In his first appearance, he passed the preliminary and the main examinations but failed to clear the interview, Bukhari’s counsel Mir Urfi said.
