Warangal: An undertrial today escaped from police custody while returning from a court appearance in Hyderabad, police said.
The accused, Upparapelli Suri, who was lodged in Warangal Central Jail, escaped from Yeshwantpur village in Jangaon mandal of Warangal district this afternoon on the pretext that he wanted to attend the nature’s call.
“Suri, a native of Nellutla village of Lingala Ghanpur mandal of Warangal, was involved in 21 cases, including two murder cases. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Jangoan Padmanabha Reddy said.
“He was taken to Nampally court for appearance in a case.
While he was being brought back, he asked police to stop the vehicle at Yeshwantapur village to attend the nature’s call.
However, when the vehicle was stopped, he escaped from the spot. Police looked for him for some time but he could not be found,” Reddy said.
Police fired three rounds in the air to intimidate him but he could not be found, an officer said.
