Muzaffarnagar: A 55-year-old undertrial lodged in the district jail here today died after suffering a heart attack.
Shamim suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, Jail Superintendent Rajender Singh said.
District authorities have recommended a judicial inquiry into the death even as some inmates protested inside the jail premises alleging delay in providing medical treatment to Shamim, who was arrested in an embezzlement case from Ilyaspur village on January 16.
