In yet another case, an undertrial prisoner was “brutally” beaten to death by police officials in Nagaland, TNIE reports.
The authorities have suspended five jail officials, including an assistant jailor while terminated services of 12 temporary staffs in connection with the death.
The victim identified as Yanbemo Mozhui was arrested in connection with an assault incident on security guards at a bank branch in Bhandari town of Wokha district.
The prisoner died at Wokha sub-jail on December 26. The incident has shaken the state’s prison establishment.
While a case has been registered and an investigation is ordered. Director-General of Prisons Toshitsungba Aier has appointed superintendent of Zunheboto jail K Kushito Awomi as an inquiry officer and jailor of Peren district jail Imlinungba as presenting officer to probe the case.
The authorities asked the probe team to submit the report within 15 days.
