The Razakars were a private militia organized by Qasim Razvi to support the rule of Nizam Osman Ali Khan,Asaf Jah VII and resist the integration of Hyderabad State into the Dominion of India. They also attempted
to make the Nizam ACCEDE his princely state to Pakistan instead of India.
Don’t blame just Nizam for Razakar atrocities.
This in a princedom where only 14% of the population was Muslim. The osmansagar, himayatsagar was not built for 14% of muslim population. The university’s, colleges, hospitals, courts, Assembly hall, Secretariat etc etc was not just for 14% of muslim population. Today what is the status of muslims compared to Andhra rulers. After ruling
for centuries how many Muslims are wealthy and how many andhra rulers are wealthy who came to Hyd bare foot just 50 years ago.
The Razakars demanded special powers from the Nizam,
which they started to misuse and the helpless Nizam had to abide by their dictates.
The Nizam sent a delegation to the United Nations to refer the Hyderabad State case to the UN Security Council.
Qasim Rizvi and the Razakars had the additional agenda to persuade the Nizam to accede to Pakistan,
instead of remaining independent of both India and Pakistan.
The Razakar militia brutally put down the armed revolts by Communists and the Peasantry
and committed horrendous atrocities on the Hindu population and even eliminated patriotic Hyderabadi
Muslims such as Shoebullah Khan who advocated merger with India.
And Telanganites very well remember what sort of treatment they got from Andhra’s during Razakar movement.
Andhra rulers destroyed telangana’s culture, agriculture, looted wealth, destroyed infrastructure and what not.
And in my opinior only KCR can revive the state and bring back Telangana’s glory. KCR’s win itself is
a confidence to Telangana. Imagine congress winning in Telangana, forget development Telanganites would have become slaves.
KCR praised Nizam before and after state bifurcation and still won the elections because Telanganites
know and realize it was Andhras who looted and destroyed hyderabad whereas Nizam built hyd to international standards.
I remember as a child after the rainy season the water in open wells reach to ground level. After
60 years and rainfall improving marginally, look at telangana state where there is no water, no drinking water and depend on borewells for drinking water. Why, beacuse whole of Telangana river system was destroyed.
What do you call this? or is this a Joke.
Though every Telanganite hates razakar movement and Nizam partially responsible, This was and is the state of rulers whether it was in medieval period or now to protect their princely state . What did king Ashoka (Chanda Ashoka) do to conquer Kalinga or major parts of India. Did he not kill his own family members and his own people. Andhrites are not willing to give their land for AP capital even after compensation, so how can anybody give up their rule of centuries.
Unlike Britishers who looted and took wealth back to England, did Nizam’s take their wealth anywhere.
When Hyderabad was merged with Indian state it was the wealthiest and well developed state with vast tracts of government land.
The wealthy princely state of Hyderabad was a Hindu-majority state that was ruled by the Muslim Nizam.
Hyderabad state had always been independent and was a symbol of Indian heritage and COMMUNAL HARMONY,
even when the rest of the Indian subcontinent was reeling under uncertain times.
When India became independent in 1947, like all the other Princely states, the Hyderabad State was
also given the choice of either joining India or Pakistan. The Nizam wanted neither-
he wanted to remain independent as it had been during the days of the British India.
By no means am I in favor of Razakar movement as my own father and family members suffered , just
wanted to state the facts.
