The Bam-e-Ruknuddaula (the Ruknuddin Lake) which was once spread over 104 acres of land has now almost disappeared. Surprisingly on 19th February not only the 13 acre and 17 guntas of land is illegally occupied but it has been cordoned off within 24 hours.
Strong anger prevailed among the public and social activists busy in protection of water reservoirs on the illegal occupation of lake land. They opined that in present scenario when the Hyderabad would be made joint capital of the two states for 10 years and law and order responsibility would be given to the governor, the fencing of the land could not be possible without the connivance of high officials and land grabbers.
Locals and social activists are constantly trying to contact high officials including MRO Rajendranagar but they have switched off their phones. As per the market value the land is worth Rs. 130 crore. Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) a NGO and locals have demanded cordoning of the lake.
