Hyderabad, October 25: Indian Youth for Climate Network (IYCN) has organized a series of programmes on the occasion of International Day of Climate Actions today to educate the people of Hyderabad about the climate change and its impact on the society.
Speaking to media persons, national coordinator of IYCN, Chaitanya Kumar said their main aim was to propagate the importance of the number 350 (350 Parts Per Million is the upper limit of carbon dioxide in the climate). The current average of CO2 concentration in the world is 390 PPM, he said.
Forewarning the people on the rising carbon dioxide levels in the climate, Chaitanya Kumar said it had brought drastic climatic changes in the past few years such as melting of ice, drought and floods to name a few.
“The propagation of importance of Number 350 was taken up in 181 countries across the world by various organizations today,’’ he added.
“The global actions come six weeks before the world nations convene in Copenhagen for the United Nations for Climate Change conference to draw up a new climate treaty. “At this moment, we need a huge worldwide movement to give us the momentum to make real political change,’’ the IYCN national coordinator said As part of their campaign, Chaitanya Kumar said an art gallery was set up at Necklace Road and all the paintings in the gallery were made keeping in mind the theme of climate change, environment and importance of 350 PPM, he said.
A huge banner with the number 350 was unveiled in front of Charminar and students distributed and planted saplings, he added.
