Umar Khalid Attack: Police transfers case to Special Cell

Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Tuesday transferred the case related to the attack on Jawaharlal Nehru University student Umar Khalid to the Special Cell, the anti-terror unit of Delhi police.

The move came a day after Khalid was targeted by an unidentified armed assailant outside Constitution Club near Parliament, where security has been stepped up for Independence Day. He escaped unhurt.

Khalid was attacked when he was at Constitution Club to attend an event, ‘Khauf se Azadi: Towards Freedom Without Fear’, organised by an NGO, United Against Hate.

Police also released CCTV footage that shows the alleged assailant. CCTV footage shows the man walking towards Patel Chowk, He then turns left towards Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, where he is spotted waving to someone, pretending that he had an accomplice waiting for him, perhaps with a vehicle.
