Uma men claim she will return to the BJP

Bhopal, April 13: There seems to be some confusion surrounding former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti’s return to the BJP. While her supporters claimed that the firebrand Hindutva leader had returned to her former party, the Madhya Pradesh BJP seemed clueless.

On Sunday, Uma made a quiet return to Bhopal from Delhi following news that the party had decided not to take her back into its fold.

But the next day she was learnt to have told her followers in Bandrabhan — 90 kilometres from the state capital — that she had been accepted into the party.

“ Didi is back with the BJP. The formal announcement of Didi joining the party will be made shortly,” claimed a close aide of Uma.

The sadhvi made way for a return to the BJP — it had expelled her in 2005 after she had attacked senior leaders, including the then president L. K. Advani — following her resignation from the Bharatiya Jan Shakti ( BJS) last month. She had founded the BJS soon after her expulsion from the BJP. On Monday, she had asked her supporters to catch hold of a black cow so that she could feed it roti . This had been a common practice during the time she was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.
