Kolkata: Lauding West Bengal for making progress in irrigation under the Command Area Development Programme (CADP), union Water Resource Minister Uma Bharati on Sunday assured central government’s continued assistance for the state.
“The work done under CADP in Bengal is really commendable. Irrigation facilities have really developed. What could not be done in 30 years has happened in the last 3 years,” Bharti said after a meet with state Irrigation Minister Rajib Banerjee.
The central-sponsored CADP aims at improving irrigation potential utilisation and optimising agricultural production from irrigated land through integrated and coordinated approach of efficient water management.
Asserting that politics will not come in way of development, Bharti said the central government would assist the state in reducing riverbank erosion.
