Uma Bharti challenges CM Nitish Kumar to ban foreign liquor too

New Delhi: A day after she welcomed Bihar assembly’s passage of a bill providing for partial ban on manufacturing-trading of illicit liquor in the state, Union Minister Uma Bharti on Friday asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to “show courage” and ban foreign liquor too.

“What happened Nitishji? You banned country-made liquor, but allowed sell of foreign liquor. Show courage and ban foreign liquor too,” Bharti tweeted.

On Thursday, the Union Water Resources Minister had termed the passage of the bill as a “very good” step and urged Kumar to “keep up” with the work.

The Bihar assembly had on Wednesday passed unanimously a bill providing for capital punishment to those manufacturing or trading in illicit liquor. The assembly had also adopted a resolution that its members will not consume liquor.

In the first phase, there will be a complete prohibition in rural areas besides a complete ban on country-made liquor across the state while Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) will be sold in limited areas of the state i.e. municipal corporations and councils.
