Hyderabad: In a swift response, the Centre today invited Telangana Government to sign a deal to take loan from NABARD for irrigation projects scheme as it sought. Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi reportedly wrote a letter to Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao asking him to visit to Delhi on September 6.
It is likely that the Centre will give Rs 2500 crore for the same as was urged by the Irrigation minister. With this, the irrigation projects pending for quite some time in the State are going to get a facelift soon. Uma Bharathi asked Harish Rao to attend the meeting as it is going to get into an agreement with the NABARD to provide funding to the irrigation projects of the Telangana Government.
It is pertinent to note that Harish Rao has sought the Centre to release Rs 2500 crore apart from Rs 4500 crore loan from NABARD. The Centre and the NABARD had in the recent past agreed to provide financial assistance to the State government for completing the pending projects. The NDA Government has selected a total of 99 irrigation projects across the nation, including 11 projects in Telangana. The Irrigation Minister asked the officials concerned to prepare the plan for the meeting.(NSS)
