Guwahati:A suspected ULFA-Independent militant was killed in an encounter with police in Tinsukia district of Assam today.

Based on the Army input, a joint team of Assam Rifles and police launched an operation in the jungles near Wara on Jayrampur Road, a police spokesman said.

An exchange of fire took place between the extremist and the team early in the morning.

Later, during search, a bullet ridden body of the suspected ULFA(l) cadre was found. One revolver and three ammunition were found from the spot, he said.

A haversack containing camouflage dress, ULFA-I badge, etc was also recovered.
