ULFA militant killed in encounter

Lakhimpur, June 17: An ULFA militant was shot dead in an encounter with security forces in Lakhimpur district, police said on Thursday.

On a tip off, the joint team went to look for the ULFA rebel in interior Ghilamora Bolahigaon village along Lakhimpur-Dhemaji districts border, Lakhimpur Additional Superintendent of police Mrinal Talukdar said.

In the ensuing encounter, the utra was shot dead.

The militant was suspected to be self-styled ‘sergeant major’ Darika Saikia of the 28th battalion of ULFA.

A Chinese grenade, a 9-mm pistol, a land mine, AK-47 ammunition, a large quantity of live cartridges, four mobile sets, Rs 1.19 lakh in cash were recovered from the militant.
