UKG kid thrashed for not doing home work

Warangal, March 06: A UKG student was thrashed mercilessly by his teacher for not doing his maths home work on Friday. The incident came to light this morning after which a mob attacked the school and damaged furniture while the teacher fled the school.

Four-year-old Anish Balaji is a student of Victory Public School in Lingala village in Regonda mandal. Police said he went to school as usual yesterday.

His teacher P Dasu Naik thrashed Anish mercilessly when he discovered that the boy had not done his maths homework. Anish was beaten repeatedly on his back even as his classmates watched in horror. The boy went back home and quietly went to sleep without telling his parents anything.

This morning, when Anish was taking his bath to get ready to go to school, his mother was taken aback when she saw the welts on his back. The boy told his parents what had happened.

Shocked, his parents and a few villagers headed straight to the school. As news of the corporal punishment spread in the village, some students unions joined them in the march. They ransacked the school premises and damaged furniture.

Police rushed in and pacified the mob. Principal Katakam Raju assured the parents that he would dismiss Naik with immediate effect. The teacher is absconding.

“There have been quite a few instances of corporal punishment in the past and we have issued circulars to all schools to act against it. In the case of Victory Public School, we will conduct an enquiry and a report will be sent to the higher ups for action,’’ district education officer Pushparaj told Express.

Naik, who is a native of Gangirenigudem village, was working in the school for the last two years.
