UK working on Mallya case through appropriate legal channels

New Delhi: United Kingdom Minister for Countering Extremism Baroness Williams, who met Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday, assured that case against liquor baron Vijay Mallya is progressing through appropriate legal channels.

“The issue is progressing through appropriate legal channels. I spoke to India Minister (Kiren Rijiju) today and gave assurance to him. The legal proceedings are underway and communicated to India,” she said.

She, however, denied commenting anything on businessman and jewellery designer Nirav Modi case and said, “I will not comment on an ongoing case with legal processes involved.”
Earlier today, Rijiju told ANI that his meeting with Williams was ‘very fruitful’ and added that the UK minister had assured her full cooperation for the extradition of the two businessmen.
While Mallya is wanted in India for financial irregularities involving a total amount of Rs 9,000 crore as well as money laundering, Nirav is accused of cheating Punjab National Bank to the tune of USD 2 billion.

Both the economic offenders, fled to the UK after the respective cases against them were exposed. (ANI)
