London, July 27: Seeking to make India the “number one overseas priority” of British business, the new head of a leading UK trade body will pay a three-day visit to the country to deepen the existing bilateral relations and encourage more trade and investment. Patricia Hewitt, the UK India Business Council chairperson, will visit New Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh and meet industrialists, businesses, trade bodies and government officials during her trip starting tomorrow.
Speaking before leaving for India, she said: “I am delighted to be returning to India only a few weeks after taking over as chair of the UK India Business Council and look forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones. “As Trade and Industry Secretary in Tony Blair”s Cabinet, I made India my number one overseas priority.

Both as the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and as the e-Commerce Minister Patricia demonstrated a keen interest in engaging with Indian businesses and we look forward to her guidance and support. “This is a very important visit where we will meet Indian and British businesses and the new Indian government and we look forward to exchanging views and ideas.
