‘UK keeps Military option on Iran open’

London, November 16: UK Foreign Secretary has warned of military action against Iran as Britain’s peace activists call for removing anti-Iranian sanctions and a halt to the war rhetoric on Iran.

Speaking to reporters ahead of European Union Foreign Ministers’ meeting, William Hague announced that the British government has not ruled out the possibility of military action against Iran in the long term, reported the Daily Telegraph on Monday.

“We are not considering that at the moment. We are not calling or advocating military action. At the same time we say all options should remain in future,” said Hague.

Nevertheless, Britain’s leading anti-war campaign, Stop the War Coalition, has already called for an end to the war rhetoric on Iran and an “immediate” lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran as they severely criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for turning a blind eye on Israel’s covert nuclear arsenal while fueling the speculations about ‘undisclosed nuclear-related activities’ in Iran.

“The US and its allies remain silent about Israel’s covert nuclear arsenal, the only one in the Middle East, while they are tightening the campaign of sanctions against Iran without real evidence,” said the coalition in a statement.

Furthermore, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle hit out at Hague saying “We believe such discussions are counter-productive and reject them,” as he explicitly announced that the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting does not involve any discussions “on military intervention.”

Iran has repeatedly announced that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes and has fully cooperated with the IAEA inspectors allowing them to carry out full, round-the-clock supervision using the most advanced and sophisticated surveillance cameras and equipment.

Nevertheless, as the media hype over military action against Iran grows stronger, Iranian officials have warned of a crushing response against any possible aggressor.
