U.K. charity raises funds for Indian children

London, July 25: Seventy-five volunteers of Pratham U.K., a charity organisation, have raised £13,500 for the education of underprivileged children in India, by participating in the recent 10-km London Run.

A total of 27,000 runners from all over the world participated in the run.

Mark Bell was the fastest runner among the Pratham U.K. team. He finished the run in an impressive nearly 40 minutes — ten minutes behind the overall winning competitor.

A spokeswoman of Pratham said that the charity, an India-based NGO, has brought primary education to 33 million children through its flagship programme — Read India. Pratham aims to reach its target of educating 100 million children in India by 2010, she said.
