UK BASED MUSLIM CHARITY RESPONDS TO DISASTER IN UTTARAKHAND

Muslim Aid a UK based International NGO has responded to the Uttarakhand catastrophe swiftly and around Rs 27,00,000 was sanctioned to distribute food packs, medicines, utensils and blankets.

A team a doctors and volunteers surveyed the affected areas before aid was released. This project funded by Muslim Aid was facilitated by MESCO a Hyderabad based national NGO led by Dr Mohammed Fakhruddin.

Muslim Aid’s country coordinator for India, Mirza Feroz Baig accompanied the emergency relief team and supervised the project which included distribution of food packs to 1000 families. These food packs would last a complete month to more than 4000 individuals.

Five trucks full of aid were flagged off by Maluana Mohammed Salim Qasmi Sahab of Darul uloom Deoband (Waqf) and Vice President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board as the base for operations was Deoband due to its strategic location.

Asim Qasmi of Tayyab Hospital and Educational Trust, Deoband organised specialised food packs containing vitally important items for emergency needs.

Dr Jafer Qureshi, Head of Disaster and Emergency Committee at Muslim Aid was contacted in London over the phone to get his comments. He thanked Allah and said ‘’We at Muslim Aid responded to this major humanitarian disaster also called as Himalayan tsunami as soon as we could and mobilised our India office for immediate action’. He further went on to say that ‘’Muslim Aid always been at the forefront of alleviating suffering and reliving distress.
