Sudan, April 15: Uganda’s main opposition leader has been shot in the arm as police opened fire on a group of people attending a rally to protest against high food prices in the East African nation.
Kizza Besigye, chairman of the Forum for Democratic Change Party, was hit on Thursday as security forces fired live bullets and threw tear gas canisters at demonstrators marching in the capital Kampala, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Several people were also injured as police tried to disperse Besigye’s supporters and break up the anti-government demonstration.
The march was held after the opposition asked people to take to the streets all over the country to protest against rising prices.
The 54-year-old Besigye was defeated by incumbent President Yoweri Museveni in the February 18 presidential vote.
