UDF failed to check communalism: Achuthanandan

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 01: Kerala Chief Minister and CPI-M veteran V S Achuthanandan today blamed the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front for growth of communalism in the state, where Assembly polls are due early next year.

“The move to win support of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and the merger of Kerala Congress factions under pressure from the Christian church are clear indications of the way the UDF is moving,” he told a press conference here.

While Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest UDF partner, had held secret parleys with the Jamaat, the reports that Kerala Congress factions led by K M Mani and PJ Joseph merged under pressure from the church could not be ruled out, he said.

“The Congress, which leads the UDF, is trying to cover up these moves under its secular mask.
