Mumbai, February 28: The Shiv Sena, which recently blasted Sachin Tendulkar for his statement on Mumbai, is now batting for him. Party executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday backed Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s view that Sachin should get the Bharat Ratna.
Chavan had on Friday said his government would recommend the award for Sachin, who crossed another milestone with the first double century in ODIs earlier this week.
The Sena had recently criticized Tendulkar for saying, “Mumbai belongs to India. I am a Maharashtrian and extremely proud of that but I am an Indian first.” On Saturday, Uddhav, backing the Congress-NCP government’s suggestion that Sachin should get the award, said, “Sachin definitely deserves the Bharat Ratna.”
