Mumbai, April 20: Stung by criticism for enjoying a quiet vacation while Shiv Sena-led stir against the Jaitapur nuclear plant turned violent, party executive president Uddhav Thackeray today hit back at the media asking it where it was during the crackdown on protestors.
“Where was media when people of Jaitapur were being externed and lathi-charged by police? Who was it serving?” Uddhav asked in a statement.
“When I held a huge rally at Jaitapur on April 9, the same media gave more importance to the Jantar-Mantar hunger strike (by social activist Anna Hazare),” Uddhav said.
Local media had reported that even as the anti-Jaitapur agitation turned violent with one person killed in police firing, Thackeray junior had left for Kanha tiger sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh for a quiet vacation.
