UAE, Syria Make Bilateral Headway

Damascus, October 27: Syrian president Bashar Al Asad has instructed his government to put into force all bilateral agreements between the UAE and Syria in a way that opens up investment channels in all sectors for companies and individuals.

Federal National Council Speaker Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair, heading an FNC delegation to Syria, announced this on Monday after a meeting with the Syrian president.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Al Ghuriar said, “We tackled a range of issues, among them opening Syrian airfields to further trade flights with the UAE.”

The Syrian president gave an assurance Syria would amend laws to enable a UAE national to inherit or possess real estate. “This is not possible under existing laws.”

The question of Syrian workforce in the UAE was also addressed. “A request was made to remove obstacles such as restrictions on job advertisements in Syrian newspapers,” Al Ghurair added.

“We talked about enhancing the role of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to act in the manner of the European Parliamentary Union,” Al Ghurair said.
