UAE students to work in Varanasi on energy, water projects

A group of 24 students from UAE will visit Varanasi for a week to work with the local community on
energy and water projects.

Dr Scott Kennedy, Associate Dean for Research, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and students of the
Energy and Poverty Solutions Course will be in Varanasi from March 24-30 March as part of a field trip to address important energy and development challenges for this region, the institute said in a statement.

It added that the projects are expected to benefit more than 2,000 people in three different communities in the
district.

They are being developed in consultation with local non-governmental organisations with significant experience in
the region, it said.

The communities in Varanasi have been chosen in consultation with Human Welfare Association, a NGO and Husk
Power Systems, an energy company that works on biomass gasification based-power systems in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
