UAE Joins World Body to Fight Child Abuse over Net

Abu Dhabi, March 25: The UAE announced on Wednesday officially joined the International Organisation for the Protection of Children Against Abuse over the Internet to become the first Arab country member.

Major General Nasser Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was named member of the board of trustees of the international child protection body.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed its commitment to ensure safety of children in the UAE, and the world at large.

The Ministry added that it has the UAE’e engagment in the world campaign against abuse of children will contribute to commitment to protection of child rights.

Al Nuami, the official representative of the International Visual Taskforce Board, said, “The UAE has resolved to become a centre of excellence for protection of children to heighten awareness against risks of new technologies they may face through several media including the internet.

He said the Ministry of Interior would deliver the state-of-the-art services to upgrade the police and community performance, adding that the police-community partnership will be instrumental in adopting the international best practices and advance the UAE’s drive in enacting the appropriate legislations and systems for protection of children and family as the corner stone of the nation.

He said that parents will be empowered through child protection and assistance programmes to handle what they could face in the current information technology community.

“Through our membership in the International Visual Taskforce, we will forge partnerships with the law enforcement agencies across the world for fighting crime against children. The Ministry of Interior will be part of an advanced international operation for monitoring criminals,” he said.
