Dubai, October 24: One hundred and ninety two nations, including the UAE, will meet from December 7-18 in Copenhagen to ratify a new international global climate treaty, which will take effect when the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.
The UAE Chapter of the International Advertising Association, or IAA, last week launched a campaign on behalf of the communications industry in the UAE, urging individuals and organisations to join the global community in support of Hopenhagen, an international movement to drive action on climate change at the UN’s Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen.
‘Hopenhagen’ will allow individuals and organisations to become active participants in the climate change dialogue and make their voices heard to world leaders and the conference delegates attending the meeting.
“We believe this simple, but inspirational call to action will be as well received here in the UAE, as it has been in many parts of the World,” said Lance de Masi, President of the IAA UAE Chapter, the nonprofit organisation spearheading the Hopenhagen movement.
“Climate change is one of the epic challenges facing this and future generations. World leaders will come together for the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in December, and every citizen of the world has a stake in the outcome,” said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently.
Hopenhagen is about more than hope. “It is about global action for a global climate treaty and a better future for humankind,” Ban said.
