Hyderabad, Octtober 07: Very soon, Hyderabad will see installation of the statue of Late Parvathaneni Upendra, former Union minister on the busy junction of road no 1 and 4 in Banjara Hills. The state government has accorded necessary permission to this effect, based on representations from the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president K Chiranjeevi and the Parvathaneni Foundation. However, permission was accorded in violation of a previous state government order. As per GO No 55 issued by the roads and buildings (R&B) department dated April 8, 2003, it is clearly mentioned that erection of statues at road junctions and busy traffic points should not be permitted.
Even city traffic police informed that installation of statues at Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills would cause traffic obstacles when junction development work is taken up.
GHMC commissioner Sameer Sarma stated in his report that the proposal for installation of the statue at the junction of road no 1 and 10 (opposite City Centre) was not feasible, as there was already a statue of YSR erected there. However, there was no objection to erect the statue at the junction of road no 1 and 4. Based on the no-objection from the GHMC, the government accorded permission to the Hyderabad district collector for installation of the statue.
