On Wednesday evening, four unidentified men in an autorickshaw approached a 52-year-old typist near Ambedkar Medical College, off Shampur Main Road and hacked him to death in full public glare.
The deceased, Yusuf bin Mohammed, from Basavanagar, KG Halli, was returning home around 6 pm when the killers arrived in an autorickshaw, came near and hacked him to death even as passersby watched in horror. Bleeding profusely, Yusuf was taken to a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries, according to police.
Although the killers’ identity is not known yet, police suspect the motive could be Yusuf’s long-term dispute with the administrative committee of a mosque in his locality over some issues.
His house is located next to the mosque in KG Halli. There had been previous attempts also on Yusuf’s life. Last year, a group of people ransacked his house and attacked him. They also burn down his car and broke the windowpanes of his house.
A few people were afterward arrested for the attack and it had transpired that members of the mosque committee were involved,” a senior officer added. “We are investigating whether the same people are involved in his murder,” the officer said.
