Two youths get life term for killing neighbour

New Delhi, February 16:A Delhi court has sentenced two youths to life imprisonment for stabbing to death one person and critically injuring two others after a fight among them over beating up of a child of the victims’ family.

Additional Sessions Judge N K Kaushik also imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 each on Kshitiz Kumar and Deepak of Sagarpur in West Delhi for stabbing to death their neighbour Feroz Hussain and injuring his brother Shabbir and Shamshad, besides two others.

“The fine, if realised, be paid as compensation to the injured and legal heirs of the deceased, in equal proportion,” the court said.

The court convicted the duo relying upon the eyewitness accounts of injured victims Shabbir and Shamshad, while pointing out inherent merits of deposition by injured victims saying that they will not implicate falsely the persons who have not hurt them.

While convicting the duo, the court also rued that their third accomplice escaped from police custody from a hospital where he had been undergoing treatment after his arrest.

As per the prosecution case, the incident dated back to February 18, 2009, when Shabbir’s son Imran came back home and told him that he was beaten up by three boys in a neighbouring park, where he had been playing.

Shabbir, along with his brothers Feroz and Shamshad, rushed to the park to catch the boys, but could not find them.

The three brothers, however, spotted the errant boys in a narrow lane adjoining the park and entered it to accost them, but the boys, armed with a wooden bat and knives, struck back.

They stabbed Feroz and mercilessly battered Shabbir and Shamshad with the bat and fled after beating them up.

The three injured brothers were rushed to a hospital where Feroz died a day later.
