New Delhi, February 27:After getting high after consuming alcohol, these two youths committed theft and burglaries in the capital “almost on a daily basis” but their luck ran out and landed in police net.
The duo, allegedly involved in at least 43 cases of burglaries and theft, were arrested in south Delhi’s Pushp Vihar and have been identified as Surender (19) and Shyamji (20), H G S Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.
With their arrest, stolen property worth around Rs 2.50 lakh has been recovered.
The stolen articles included four TVs, 2 gas cylinders, two suitcases full of clothes, two mobile phones, two cameras and jewellery stolen from Azadpur and Model Town area in recent past.
The duo had told police that they had taken a room on rent in the area of Lal Bagh in Azadpur and committed several incidents of burglaries and thefts in and around the area.
“They committed thefts and burglaries almost on daily basis. In past, in the month of January last year, Shyamji along with his associates had robbed and stabbed a factory employee of Rs 5,000 but could not escape the spot and apprehended by public,” Dhaliwal said.
Shyamji was arrested in robbery case registered in Ashok Vihar and remained in jail for about one year. His other associates are still in jail.
“The gang would consume liquor in the evening and target those houses in the late evening where lights were found switched off. They carry an iron rod specially made for the purpose and keep it in side their apparel and move around in the residential locality in order to find out locked room.
“They would send the cash to their native place through one Manoj and sold the other articles to various receivers in Delhi,” Dhaliwal said.
During the last three months, they allegedly committed more then 40 incidents of burglaries and thefts in Model Town, Mayapuri, Naraina, Adarsh Nagar, New Friends Colony, Ashok Vihar and Mauraya Enclave.
