Two women feared drowned in Tawi

Srinagar: A woman and a teenaged girl were feared to have drowned in Tawi river today due to strong current, police said.

“Two women had gone to wash their clothes on the banks of Tawi river when suddenly the water current increased and they were washed away,” a police officer said.

He said two male members of the family also jumped into the river to save them but they too had to be rescued.

“The relatives of the women jumped into the river but when they were about to drown the locals saved them. However, the women got swept away,” the officer said.

The two have been identified as Lakshnmi (25) and Katti (15), both natives of Maharashtra, he said.

“We took the help of the airforce to trace them but so far we have had no success,” he said.
