Two women burnt for dowry, one dead another critical

Bulandshahr (UP): In two separate dowry related incidents, a woman was burnt to death, while another suffered serious burn injuries in the district, police said today.

The first incident took place in Maulabad village under Sikandrabad Police Station here, in which a woman Vaishali (20) was set afire, allegedly by her in-laws last night. Her charred body was recovered later.

An FIR was registered under sections 498(A) (Domestic violence), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 302 (punishment for murder). Father-in-law Rajveer (50) and mother-in-law of the deceased were arrested on the basis of information provided by the locals.

Vaishali was married for seven months to Rajveer’s son Indrajeet who is absconding, Ram Mohan Singh, SP City, said.

In second incident, at Jahangirabad town here, Kamlesh (27) was set on fire last night, allegedly by her husband and in-laws.

She was allegedly tortured for giving birth to three girls in a row, one of whom was born recently, they said.

According to SP (Rural) Pankaj Pandey, all three accused including husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law are absconding and a case under the Dowry Act has been registered.

Kamlesh, who was admitted to district hospital with severe burns, has been referred to Meerut for further treatment and where her condition is stated to be critical, said SP Pandey.
