Two US-led troops killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, April 28: Two troops of the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have been killed in two separate incidents in the war-ravaged Afghanistan, the alliance says.

One of the troops was killed by a homemade bomb in southern Afghanistan and the other was killed by an insurgent attack in the east, ISAF said in a statement late Wednesday.

According to Reuters, the statement gave no further details about the incidents.

This brings to 10 the number of ISAF’s fatalities in Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Violence in Afghanistan has spiked to record highs since the US-led invasion in October 2001.

The Taliban have concentrated their roughly ten-year fight against the US-led forces in Afghanistan’s southern provinces of Helmand and Kandahar.

Tens of thousands of Afghan civilians have reportedly lost their lives as a consequence of displacement, starvation, lack of medical treatment, crime and lawlessness resulting from the war.

Meanwhile, hundreds of civilians have lost their lives in US-led airstrikes and ground operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months, with Afghans becoming more and more outraged over the seemingly endless number of deadly assaults.

Western public opinion is growing increasingly tired of the war. Deaths of civilians in NATO and US attacks have also fueled tensions between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and his Western allies.
