Double United States Masters champion Bubba Watson has claimed that world number one Rory McIlroy would face more pressure at the Augusta National next month, the year’s first major.
Watson could join the elite company of Jack Nicklaus , Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods if his bid to defend his title at the Augusta National next month is successful, as he would then be amongst the only players to win consecutive green jackets. He could also join the likes of Sam Snead and Gary Player by becoming the sixth three-times Major winner. Nicklaus holds the record with six.
Watson, who also won the tournament in 2012, claimed that he doesn’t have any pressure, adding that he has already got two jackets. He insisted that McIlroy would obviously have more pressure than him, because look at the talent the Northern Irishman has and the records he could beat when he gets older, Sport24 reported.
McIlroy would arrive at the fabled golf course seeking a Masters crown to complete a career grand slam and a victory at Augusta would make him the seventh career grand slam winner following Woods, Nicklaus, Player, Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen.
The Northern Irishman would also become second youngest to achieve the feat behind Woods, who was 24 when he completed his set by winning the 2000 British Open with a record 19-under score at St. Andrews, the report added. (ANI)
