Two thirds in Karimnagar district are literate

Karimnagar, April 04: Literacy rate in Karimnagar district has gone up to 64.87 per cent this year from 54.9 per cent in 2001, according to the census report released by Census Commission recently.

This makes the district stand 14th among the 23 districts in the state and sixth among districts in Telangana.

The 9.97 per cent rise in literacy rate in the last decade is due to the constant efforts of anganwadi centres, work site schools, adult education centres and other educational institutions, an educationist of Karimnagar town felt.

According to latest census reports, every two persons among three are educated.

The population of women (19,14,670) outnumbers that of males (18,97,068) in the district. The number of females per 1000 men has gone up to 1009 from the earlier 998, recorded in 2001.

The population density has increased to 322 per sq km from the 295 per sq km, recorded in 2001.

Of the total 38,11,738 population in the district, 8.47 per cent constitute children (male and female) aged between 06 years which is the least in the state.

For the first time, transgender population was counted this time and according to the census report, there are 55 transgenders in Karimnagar district.
