Two Telugu professors — one each from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh — who were abducted by the ISIS ultras in Libya last year were released from captivity.
In a tweet this morning, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj expressed her happiness over the safe release of Prof. Gopikrishna of Andhra Pradesh and Prof. C Balram Kishan of Telangana State. She stated the two Telugu professors were released by the kidnappers unharmed.
It may be mentioned here that four Indian professors were abducted by ISIS militants on July 29 last year between Libya andTunisia while they were going to Tripoli airport from Sirte University in North Libya. However, two professors from Karnataka Ramakrishna Laxmikant of Raichur and Vijay Kumar of Bengaluru, were released within two days while T Gopikrishna of Tekkali of Srikakulam district (Andhra Pradesh) and C Balram of Shanigaram village of Karimnagar district (Telangana) were rescued after more than one year from militants’ captivity in Libya.
The families of the Telugu professors said, “We are relieved from the year-long tension” and thanked the External Affairs Ministry for rescuing them from the clutches of Islamic militants without any harm. Family members of Gopikrishna, also expressed their happiness over the safe release from the militants and they thanked the External Affairs Ministry.
Meanwhile, Srikakulam MP K Rammohan Naidu thanked Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for the safe release of Professor Gopikrishna. (NSS)
