Hyderabad, December 17: Two suspected operatives of Pakistan-based terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen were today arrested here by an Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Andhra Pradesh police.
Mirza Akbar Baig alias Akbar and Gulam Abdullah alias Azhar were accused in a case registered in 2005 for collecting arms with an intention to wage a war against the country, a senior police officer said.
“There were 17 accused in this case while Baig was accused No. 15 and Abdullah is accused No.16,” he said, adding Baig is a native of Nalgonda district and Abdullah is a resident of Santosh Nagar in Hyderabad.
The arrested persons were staunch followers of Mujeeb Ahmed, a commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case on August 28 this year by a local court.
Six others, including Mujeeb’s woman accomplice Zohra Nishat, were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in the case.
