Sanandaj, April 17: Two sound bomb explosions have rocked Iran’s western province of Kordestan, causing minor damage to nearby shops.
The first blast happened at about 10 p.m. local time (1730 GMT) on Saturday night in Azadi Square in the provincial capital Sanandaj and the second explosion occurred about 10 minutes later close to a bank nearby, IRNA reported.
No one was seriously injured, but shattered windowpanes cut the arm of a passerby.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Sound bombs produce loud blasts that create smoke but seldom cause injuries.
In October 2010, four police officers and one civilian were killed in a terrorist attack in Sanandaj, in which five police officers and four civilians were also injured.
In December 2010, 33 mourners, including women and children, were killed in a terrorist attack in the southeastern city of Chabahar, and in September 2010, a bombing targeted a military parade in the northwestern city of Mahabad in West Azarbaijan province, killing 12 people and injuring about 80 other people.
