ManilaL Two earthquakes measuring 5.9 and 5.7 on the Richter scale struck Luzon island in the Philippines on Saturday, officials said.
The first took place 17 km to the west of Batangas neighbourhood at a depth of 40 km, said the US Geological Survey.
A minute later, another shock was felt around 13 km west of Batangas at a depth of 42 km, Efe news reported.
Terrestrial movements were felt in Manila as well, around 100 km north of the shock’s epicentre, where offices and tall buildings were evacuated for security.
On February 11, an earthquake of magnitude 6.7 struck the southern island of Mindanao, claiming eight lives and injuring around 200 others.
