Two Punjab cops dismissed for corruption

Chandigarh, November 18: The Punjab police chief here on Wednesday dismissed from service two policemen who were found guilty of taking a bribe of Rs.550,000 from drug smugglers, officials said.

“Director General of Police P.S. Gill has dismissed sub-inspector Rajesh Ashtir and head constable Raj Singh from service with immediate effect. They were found guilty of taking bribe of Rs.550,000 from two poppy-husk smugglers for dropping their names while registering a case,” said the police spokesperson here Wednesday.

“A case was registered against these tainted officials at Kot Isse Khan police station in Moga district in Punjab. Our drive against narcotic smugglers would continue and no anti-social element would be spared,” he added.

Moga town in Punjab is around 200 km from here.
