New Delhi: Security forces on Sunday recovered powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Naxals from an insurgency-hit pocket of Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, police said.
“The explosives, weighing 5 kg and 20 kg, were unearthed by a joint team of security personnel from a hill between Nawatola and Pallemadi villages under Khadgaon police station limits,” a senior police official said.
As per the official, a composite squad of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and district force had launched an anti-Maoist operation towards Nawatola, Kukrelpar and Pallemadi villages.
“When they were cordoning off a forested route which connects Nawatola with Pallemadi iron ore mines, security forces spotted a wire connection in bushes and subsequently found the explosives besides 150 metre wire,” he said.
The IEDs were placed in pressure cookers and hidden beneath stones, the official said, adding they were immediately neutralised by the bomb disposal squad.
The explosives were meant to harm security personnel during their operations in the region, he added.
