Karachi, April 10: Two leaders of a religious party were shot dead and two others were seriously injured on Thursday and the unknown assailants riding on motorbikes escaped.
Police confirmed that Qari Abdul Hafiz (50) and Qari Ijaz (50), both local leaders of Jamait Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), coalition partners at the centre, Siddique (32) and Sub-Inspector Ghulam Ali (50) were sitting outside a shop in the troubled Orangi Town, when armed men riding on motorbikes sprayed them with bullets.
The injured were rushed to a hospital but Qari Abdul Hafiz and Qari Ijaz were pronounced dead on their way due to excessive bleeding while the other two were provided treatment and their condition was said to be stable.
As the news of the slaying of the two JUI-F leaders spread, supporters of the party came out in numbers in various areas and forced shops to pull down shutters and demonstrated on the roads demanding arrest of the unknown killers.
