The toll in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh rose to 11 today with recovery of bodies of two persons washed away in Aluru mandal of Kurnool district, officials said.
The two persons travelling in separate vehicles were washed away in flash flood along with their vehicles last night while they were crossing a bridge on the Aluru-Guntakal road that was overflowing following heavy rains, they said.
The bodies were recovered around three kms from the bridge on Sunday. One of the victims identified as Imam Saheb was travelling in a van while Mallikarjun Reddy was driving a car, a police officer said.
Heavy rains since Friday had claimed nine lives in Hyderabad city in two incidents of wall collapse on Saturday.
The Met department on Sunday forecast moderate to rather heavy rains or thundershowers at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions of the state and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places over Rayalaseema till July 24.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who reviewed the situation with top officials at a meeting yesterday, directed all district Collectors to monitor the situation and take the necessary steps.
