Hyderabad, February 04: Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation today trapped two officials of the regional passport office (RPO) while they were accepting bribe for issuing passports.
The officials who were trapped are — K Vasanth Kumar, the public relations officer and assistant PRO G Venu. Both were caught with Rs 4,000 which they had accepted as bribe for doing the favour. CBI officials said in a press release that based on the complaint of a person, a trap was laid to catch Vasanth Kumar. The tainted official allegedly demanded Rs 4,000 for issuing passport to the complainant, who brought it to the notice of CBI officials who swung into action and caught him.
During the investigation, CBI officials came to know that G Venu, assistant to the PRO, is allegedly hand in glove with Vasanth Kumar.
It is learnt that CBI officials also raided the residence of Vasanth Kumar and further investigation is in progress.
Both the officials were arrested and a case is registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
