Two Nepalese arrested with fake currency in MP

Bhopal, August 30: Two Nepalese of Indian origin have been arrested here for allegedly smuggling fake currency into the country, police said today. Atiq Ahmed alias A K Shrivastava (42), a resident of Birganj in Nepal and Rajesh Gupta (42) of Khatmandu were arrested yesterday with counterfeit currency of face value Rs 11,000, following a tip-off, Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Pawan Shrivastava said.

The accused were produced in a local court which sent them to ten days in police custody, he added. “They have voters identity cards and other documents of the Himalayan nation,” the MP ATS chief said.

He said that they were being interrogated to get more information about their modus operandi. Meanwhile, sources in the ATS claimed that the duo was engaged in pumping fake currency in India from Nepal and had acquired the seized counterfeit notes from one Imran alias Langoor of Birgunj.

While Ahmed was born in Uttar Pradesh and settled in Birgunj in 1997 after marrying a Hindu girl, Gupta had settled in Kathmandu after migrating from Rajasthan. Recently, they visited Madhya Pradesh around six times, the sources said.
